How To Remove Mildew From Bathroom Towels

One of the articles in your home that is most likely to get infected by mold and mildew is your bathroom towels.  There are a lot of different reasons why this is the case.  First of all, a towel is usually left in your bathroom, which usually also has a high level of humidity associated with it.  Also, you use your towel to dry your body off.  This means that not only will your towel have water in it, but it may also have particles of skin or soap in it.  This is a very attractive food source for mildew to grow in.

Mildew Prevention

Another way that you can get mildew in your towels is if you don’t hang them up, but throw them on the floor wet.  When conditions are wet, and dark, this is a perfect environment for fostering mildew. If you are careful to hang your towel up right after you use it, you are going to be a lot less likely to develop mildew problems later on.  Make sure that you have adequate space on the bar for your towel so that you can stretch it out and have it dry properly.

Removing Mildew

If you have already developed mildew in your towels, you may need to use a mildew remover to get rid of it.  One of the best types of chemicals you can use for mildew removal is bleach.  All you have to do is to add about a half cup of bleach to your laundry when you’re washing your towels.  This will help break up the mildew and help to get rid of mildew stains as well as the mildewy smell.

Mildew Smell Removal

The mildew smell can resemble spoiled mouth and it is essential that you get rid of it as soon as possible.  As mildew gets worse, it can rot out fabrics as it eats them up.  It can also stain them permanently if it is not removed as soon as possible. Another method of mildew removal is to wash your towels and then hang them out to dry on a laundry line, where they can have a lot of access to sunlight.
